Hershey, PA – Acclaimed historian Gretchen Sorin brings her e-book, Driving Whereas Black, to Museum Dwell. She reveals how the automobile―the final word image of independence and risk―has all the time held specific significance for African People, permitting black households to evade the numerous risks offered by racial division in society and to take pleasure in, in some measure, the liberty of the open highway.  She recounts the creation of a parallel, unseen world of black motorists, who relied on journey guides, black-only companies, and casual communications networks to maintain them protected.
